Old Skool: no more free sounds for new users
Well, you can tell how often I visit to download. Didn't even know about the 'Old Skool' thing, posted in January of this year. But hey, this site has some amazing sound effects. I keep coming back! Even as an amateur I can see the great wealth of clips and the quality has got to be worth more than NOTHING!
Keep up the great work guys and I really hope this site works out for you and you earn some dollars (I know what you mean).
Good luck and thanks!!!!!

Personally I think the price for the packs are pretty fair. I usually use about 20 sounds per project so I go for the $30 plan.
At other sites the prices are usually $2 each, and more for longer sounds, so this works out for me.'
Keep up the good work.
Cheers
Steve
For me as a contributor the new model is much better as now I'm more willing to upload my stuff to Soundsnap as I can be sure that my sounds which are also published in other commercial Libraries can not be downloaded for free here anymore (which of course reduces sales on the other sites). I know this only applies for new users but it's a beginning of something new and maybe one day Tasos will change the scheme so that we contributors can participate in the sales on a "share per sound" basis instead of the current Buyout model.
Just my 2 cents...

Yes, you read it correctly.
Soundsnap has stopped giving free sounds to users that sign up after the 26th of January 2010.
But don't panic!
Old users will keep their '5 free per month' rights and will be called 'Old Skool' from now on.
For those that might say that we 're greedy, here is the reasoning behind this:
Advertising isn't working out as expected on Soundsnap. This may sound like a stereotype, but this economy is not good for ad-supported businesses.
A lot of the extra money will be re-invested into Soundsnap to make it better, faster and grow the library with even more professional content.
We have a new 'credit' system to buy sounds, instead of monthly memberships, which has been requested by many users.
Our packs start at $9 USD for 5 sounds, which is not that much for the great work produced by our sound designers and producers.
Check your profile page for the Old Skool flag/ badge of honor!
