can audasity save me?

how much can one do to a lackluster recorded sound with a shoddy mp3 player.
because I am masterminding a project involving someones webcomic I am interested in sounds now.
but I don't know how long it will last.

so I have minimal equipments until I can find people who have said equptment to go and borrow for some time ("can I come over and play?")

how much "magic" can this thing work?

Well, i think your best bet

Well, i think your best bet would be to aim for getting a decent recording rather than 'try to polish a turd' as they say :)

I've played on a few mini-disc recorders before and they've given me a nice quality sound for what they were.

As i put above - if it's only hiss/hum you've got, chances are it can be removed. It's just much much much easier to record without having to import and spend 5-10 minutes editing to make it sound 'normal'.

i just also wanted to

i just also wanted to somehow share and give back to the commmunity.

It all depends on the

It all depends on the specific sound in question. If it's got background hiss, you can usually filter that quite easily providing the signal you want to keep isn't at the same spectrum freq as the hiss.
If it's badly recorded (in terms of signal quality) you can't do much i'm afraid.
Are there no sounds on here you can use until you find yourself a sound guy? I'm sure some people on here would be willing to record a sound or two for you if there's anything specific.
