What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

Hi, I'm looking for a sound of a old fridge on its last last. Basically, I'm looking for a particular sound that has a prolonged rhythmic sound like a series of rattles from an old fridge. If anyone can, I'd greatly appreciate it!

hi kimba... when you say "prolonged rhythmic sound" do you mean the sound of the compresser in an old fridge? do you need the file to sound cartoony or more real...do you want the fridge to sound just old or comeing appart... if you can expand on the sound you need(series of rattles) i can find/creat some "sounds" that will work...put them toghether to make one sound..if i know what your using the file for i can build the sound that could work for ya...(i hope) let me know...

Hi squid,

Basically, the sound I'm looking for is one of a fridge turning itself off and trying to reset itself. I had a fridge in that state once and the off and on sounds were very rhythmic. I'm trying to find a sound just like it.

Hi Squid,

Is there any chance of making each cycle a little longer with a slight pause between each? The sound I'm thinking of is in sync with our own breathing rhythm. Thanks!

That sounds perfect! :)

That sounds perfect! :) Thanks! You can make 2 cycles. I'll be doing a bit of replication myself as I'll be using it for a podcast assignment.
