What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

Hi, great site!

However, although not having read all the previous suggestions, I'd suggest the following - really would help browsing the site.

  1. AJAX voting - So that while listening to a sound clip, the page wouldn't reload upon voting on it. This would be great when really scouring through the site.
  2. Favoriting on listing - A link where one could quickly add the clip to the favorites on listings (search results, category contents...). Again, AJAX would be the word of the day.
  3. Bigger breakdown on profile page - The profile page should contain some sort of a list of favorites right away. Not all, but e.g. 10 most recent.
  4. Quick search in category names too - When using the quick search bar on the top of the page, the search would be also directed on the category names, and the suggest relevant categories for better results. Even better if the search term would carry on to the category listing.
  5. HTML tag bar - Like on Wikipedia, adding tags to texts could be easier and quicker if there was an accompanying one-click toolbar.
  6. Smilies - :)

Thanks for sound clips and keep up the awesome work! This is exactly the website I need.

Thanks so much for the great

Thanks so much for the great feedback.
Comments on your suggestions:

1) We have just made this and will have it live by Tuesday.

2) If you click on the waveform, a little box pops up, which has a 'add to favorites' list. But its not that easy to find and its not AJAX.

3) Thats a pretty good idea. We might do that soon.

4) This is also a good point. But the sounds themselves have link to their category and tags, so those are essentially suggested categories. But it could be improved by showing some at the top.

5) I 'll have to look into this- I haven't noticed this

6) No :-)

Take care and see you around.

T

Great to hear about the AJAX

Great to hear about the AJAX voting! Looking forward to Tuesday enormously. :)

I might be reaching here, but the favorites list could also have a play bar. Slightly annoys me to open a page every time I want to play a 2 second sound clip.

Thanks for the quick response and best wishes!
