What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

Blues Singer here!

Hey everyone

I am a blues singer and wanted to offer up my help now and then. I don't have sound recording equipment but I have found I can sing in to the video camera and then make a wave file from the audio...so if you need help now and then...give me a shout.

Oh yeah...I used to do radio and have what is considered a 'sexy' voice....yada yada...but if you need a woman's voice for something...let me know and I will help the best I can. Just don't expect incredible high end recordings since I am working from a camera and a video editor.

And one more 'Oh yeah'...I have done voice work for animation, including Mime Fujiko in the Animego dub of Rupin III the Fuma Conspiracy...so I can do some character voices too.

Reply here please...I will check in weekly...or find me through my bands web site because all that mail forwards to me. I just don't want to hand out my email and I figure if you go looking for it and go through all the trouble...than you seriously want some help and are not just sending out spam!

When I was making this website, I wasn't thinking that a blues singer from North Carolina would find it useful. You weren't exactly the core user that I had in mind. :-)

But thats the beauty of this place!

i am so happy you did make this site. i may be a blues singer but in the last 4-5 months I have been teaching myself how to edit video footage. two years ago i shot 'behind the scenes' of a zombie movie and i am making a documentary. i finally got to the point of not wanting to wait for the perfect editor and paying for one is not an option right now. so i started making youtube videos and getting silly with them.

your site is part of how i started to really explore the editor. if not for finding music loops and background sounds i might never have learned so much. when i got my hands on the right sounds i was forced to use them. i had no more excuses. once i learned more about layering the sounds i had to learn more about timing with scenes and so on...

i am not the next great editor by any means but thanks to soundsnap i have taken on a lot of new skills!

so in an odd way...a blues singer from north carolina owes you an extra thank you...and a big THANKS at that!
