What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

As a slightly amateur music maker, I don't have too much that I would actually consider uploading. Problem is, much of the stuff of mine that IS worth uploading makes annoying *click* noises when it loops, so I only bother uploading one or two of my loops, when I might be able to have, like, 5 or 6. Does anyone know a good way to get rid of these clicks?

Well, I typed in a long

Well, I typed in a long reply, then could not read the CAPTCHA, so I clicked on the sound and it killed my browser. I really hate these CAPTCHAs. And I do not understand why we have to use them since we have to be logged in to be able to post anyway. :(

Well, let me try again: Think of the image of a sine wave. It starts at 0, gradually moves up to 1, then gradually back to 0, then gradually down to -1, then gradually back to 0. And then it continues cyclically.

If you interrupt that natural cycle, for example jump from 1 to -1 (and then continue up to 0 as if nothing had happened), you get a click.

Naturally, most sound waves are a bit more complicated than a plain sine wave, but they do follow the same pattern. So, when producing a loop, make sure that it preserves the same continuity, remembering that after it ends, it keeps going from the start. So, if it starts at zero and then moves up, it has to end where it is coming up from -1 to just almost zero (since the next point will be the initial zero, and you do not want two zeroes in a row as that would insert momentary silence).

So, take a look at your loop in a sound editor and make sure it follows the natural cyclical flow of sound waves and there will be no clicks.

RedPrince, Sorry about the

RedPrince,

Sorry about the Captcha, but it seems necessary right now. A lot of spammers were creating multiple accounts a day and used code to spread spam as comments to sounds or forum posts.

This was annoying for both users that had uploaded sounds, but also to myself that had to go deleting their shitty spamments (spam comments).

No problem. I am a liberal, but I support the death penalty for spammers. :)

I can read the CAPTCHA most of the times, so from now all I have to do is take a look at the captcha before typing a message, and reload the page if I cannot read it.

Though, here is an idea: If possible, check if the user who is logged in has been a member for a while who has uploaded, say, three sounds and posted three good messages, and if so, skip the CAPTCHA, otherwise use it. Just an idea, of course. You do what you have to do. We're all glad to have Soundsnap!

hehe Red Prince made it all

hehe Red Prince made it all complicated XD

Well gmanyo3 , you just make a short fade-out in the end of the loop , and maybe a fade-in in the beginning...but mostly those clicks are removed after fading out the end...in my case

Make sure you haven`t forgot

Make sure you haven`t forgot to turn off the metronom :) Otherwise you can use Audition and there you have a function called Click&Pop eliminator :) Or as Red prince said it pay more attention to the small details in pre-post production.

Some of my early stuff has

Some of my early stuff has that 'click' sound to it,i found a simple method to get rid of this, either delete that part of the loop,or just dont let the song go over it [as in dont expand that part out on the loop]

Hope that's a simple fix for you.

you can also crop out the

you can also crop out the click and mute it...and cover over it with a different sound on a different track...if it fits your needs...?
