What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

Hi, Tasos/everybody at SoundSnap
I just uploaded some samples and I am not sure about their “categories / Tagging”
mainly, up to now, I have the following “pack-like” sounds:

-DS.Catamarca.trip at Unreal, other ambiences
-F1.Br.07 at Other sports
-DS.F1.Passing at SoundArt/SonicArt
-DS.FH.Fanny tones Idem previous

so, after a research, found sounds like DS.Fanny.Tones at Telephone cat, with accurate tagging, then I shall move n describe them properly.

what about DS.F1.Passing? I really feel uncomfortable calling them SOUNDART, where do u suggest they´ll fit properly?

Thanks a lot, again, GOOD x the multi-uploading TOOL

Happy new year rfhacke! I

Happy new year rfhacke!

I definitely see your point that 'Sound Art' is not suitable for any sound that doesn't fit into any other category. I have changed the three first of the DS.F1 sounds to the 'Science Fiction' category and into the 'Space FX' sub-category.

This isn't totally accurate, but it seems to be the most suitable.

About the rest of the sounds, the tagging and categorization is fine, although I tend to consider a sound as an 'ambience' if it is longer than 30 seconds or so- so you could remove those that are less than that and place them into 'Space Fx' too.

Let me know if that didn't cover your question.

Tasos, 1sr of all. forgive

Tasos,
1sr of all. forgive my poor ENGLISH, if dont understand something i say, please, let me know !!
2nd I´m not sure if posting this comments at the forum is really accurate, but I tried to e-mail you, not being successful, please, remove it if u consider better.

well, as you can see, i am uploading a lots of packs/samples, in-a-hurry-like way, after being away of SOUNDSNAP for quite a few weeks...why? ok, lets say:

3-Not being able to "multi-Upload" was a 10% of the reason, at least for a guy like me, meaning, HAVE-NO-PATIENT/TIME… for many reasons, later you may understand.

4-i am also uploading at freesound, and ..lets say...learning what´s about this kind of HOBBY, remember i told you i am just an amateur, not only about soundmaking,recording,processing,and-so-on, (the technical issue), but also at being part of a "community" as i think you are, therefore, I have learnt a lot about. another 10%.
5-my business is very demanding, having to travel a lot between Brazil and Argentina (where I am from), so 10% more.

6-the most important, I am a father of a 6 years old girl, FANNY, and for the reason of being most of the year traveling, I invest most of my time, when being at home, to enrich our relationship…(will talk about this issue another time, or better, if you visit FREESOUND by any chance, may see some work we are doing together about MAKINGSOUND, and also some posts about she at the forum). the 70% left .

ok, I am about to be out of home for a couple of months, this time with FANNY, and I really wanted to upload before leaving.

So…Happy New (y)EAR, to all of you at SoundSnap !!

ohh, I promised about tagging properly the already uploaded samples, and thers a lot more waiting x describing, I do it in a couple of days.

I think that you have

I think that you have contributed much more than most people.
So please don't be apologetic in any way.

Not everyone has the same commitments, and having a family is as important as work to most (if not more)- not to mention much more important than your hobbies, if you consider Soundsnap a hobby.

The community owes YOU!

thanks well, let me share

thanks
well, let me share something I read yesterday with FANNY : (I´ll try to translate a brief letter a child sent to Albert Eisntein):

Agoust 19 , 1947
Dear Dr. Einstein
we would like to know, If nobody is around, and tree falls down…would there be a sound? Why?

There is No answer at the book, but an empty page, it is printing error? didn’t Einstein have an answer?
Better for me, because the less I know, the more I enjoy the experience of making or listen sounds without expecting any results or answers. Just a Hobby.

On the other hand, when being part of a community, I DO care about their target, culture and rules.

I am really enjoying this feedback. but i got to "categ..and tag..some sounds" so see you, or hear you... also, is this an open topic...ya?

Why would she ask that of

Why would she ask that of Einstein? That question is an old Zen koan, and as most Zen koans, it is not a scientific question for which there is a yes or no answer. Its purpose is to make the student think in a new way. So, the question is an exercise for the mind, not a question of physics.

And while Einstein was a brilliant physicist, he once admitted to a psychologist that psychology was way beyond his understanding.
