What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

Hi all,

Could anyone recomend me a good piece of software for composing to picture besides Nuendo? Basically, I'd like something which accepts a wide variety of video formats and is VST compatible.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

You can try Logic Audio its

You can try Logic Audio its very eary to use and one of the most flexible software i have had my hands on recently.
There are some cool in built plug-ins and also instruments. The automation feature is very flexible.

I use both Digital

I use both Digital Performer,(www.motu.com) for Midi/audio work, as well as PROTOOLS, which you can download for free (protools LE), but you will need hardware such as the M-box for the protools ( www.digidesign.com)

Thanks for the replies guys

Thanks for the replies guys though I should have stated I'm PC based.

I'm using Premiere at the minute Leo, composing in Ableton then dropping the audio in Premiere as you mentioned. Am I right in thinking it's pretty much just this method or Nuendo for PC then? I really need perfect sync, scoring directly to picture.

Maybe I should persevere with Nuendo...Grr Steinberg. I hope Ableton bring in scoring to picture in the next version...

Thanks again :)

Hi Guy, I'm running version

Hi Guy,

I'm running version 6 but prefer not to convert my video files to Quicktime. It is Quicktime only right?

Try using the M powered

Try using the M powered Protools ... u can rewire live , neuendo , reason to the M Powered Protools on PC ... lots of flexiblity ... U can also get the DV tool kit so u can have time code and video out put... works well on PC

I agree with "FilmHits"

I agree with "FilmHits" above. After using nearly every package out there on virtually every platform. The best for scoring and sound design in my book is Digital Performer and a G5 PPC. It does twice what PT does and for 1/3 the $$ (ProTools HD-1) Nuendo is greta for a tracking studio with a powerful PC. I also like Sonar and Cakewalk for MIDI orchestration. But the best all around is DP/MAC combo.
