What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

I have a question. At the moment I work off a G5 2.5 pre intel chip desktop. Running Logic 7.0.1 on OSX 10.3.9. I want to buy a laptop but wonder about cross compatibility between a new Intel Laptop and my current setup. Can I buy a new mac laptop and run 10.3.9 and my current version of Logic? or if I have to upgrade to Tiger do I also have to upgrade Logic?

any advice would be much appreciated. thanks.

It should be fine, because I

It should be fine, because I have the same setup (G4 tower).

But you will have to re-configure everything, the soundcard, install plugins etc, which is the most time-consuming.

Wait for some more replies, cause I 'm not 100% sure.

Well the new Mac laptop will

Well the new Mac laptop will come with Tiger on it. ( Lepoard if you wait till October )
Plus if you have old disks that came with your G5 of 10.3 they will not install on the intel Macs
You will need Logic 7.2 to run on the new Macs as well. Logic upgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 is $49 .
Then you will have to check with your 3rd party plugin makers to make sure they have Universal Mac versions . ( most do and most are free upgrades.

Hope that helps

If you get 7.2 you are fine.

If you get 7.2 you are fine. The project files and everything else are 100% compatible on all versions.
