What is Soundsnap?

Soundsnap is the best platform to find and share free sound effects and loops- legally. It is a collection of original sounds made or recorded by its users, and not songs or sound FX found on commercial libraries or sample CD's.

It was originally started by a small group of sound people from all over the world. Our common belief is that sounds and samples should be free for everyone to use in their projects, commercial or not.

Our users are a diverse mix of sound designers, sound artists, web game developers, filmmakers and music producers. Hobbyists and home video makers are welcome too.

What Soundsnap is NOT:

  • An alternative to Myspace, Limewire or BitTorrent.
  • A place to upload your band's songs or your favourite mp3's. Soundsnap is only for sound effects and loops.
  • A place you can upload or find sounds from commercial libraries. All sounds here are original- made or recorded by its users.

We encourage everyone to upload high quality sound FX and samples, helping us make every kind of sound available on Soundsnap.

We are looking for feedback from the community to constantly improve, and we depend on our users for that. So please feel free to leave a recommendation or feedback in the special section of our forum.

I hope you enjoy your time here and Happy Snapping!

I'm based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, U.S.A., I've also been involved in the electronics industry since 1967 and computing since 1984. (Old Guy Alert!) I've always been involved in and have a continued history of bringing emerging technologies to successful implementation (Corporate Weasel Pandering). Starting in 1988 I partnered a successful Autodesk® Digital media & 3D Animation Dealership and in 1991 the partnership shares were sold so that I could form the Award Winning Virtual Partners training facility. This allowed me to form Partners Studio a digital media production studio and DVD authoring service.

So much for the formal stuff,
Audio has been my first love and next to flying one of my favorite pass times.
I play Guitar and Blues Harp as well as take a stab at singing (I cheat using the new TC Helecon Voice
Doubler as well as the original VoicePrism Plus.) Hey what ever can keep me sounding good.
I do a lot of field work with various Mikes including the AKG 515B and the newly minted Sony PCM-D1.
My Favorite ENG Camera is the Panasonic DX-100 aka the P-24.
I've been editing Audio as well as Video since there's been computers to do it on and have trained
literally thousands of people on 3D products such as 3DS MAX, VIZ by Autodesk.
I've used exclusivly every single Sony (formerly Sonic Foundry) Audio software product as well as the Newer Video and DVD publishing offerings by Sony and Sonic as well as many of the Macromedia line items.

While I don't personally have any Hollywood Film credits many of my students are listed in such movies
as Lora Croft Tomb Raider, Volcano, uh...I knew I'd get in trouble when I started to list these...let's
just say there are a lot of them including game titles 8-).

I was thinking that there might be some Wedding Videographers out there looking for background music for their final product edits. If that's so I'll put together a bunch of my old standards and post them if there is enough interst and space allows.

All for now.

SORRY FOR THAT EMPTY POST,

SORRY FOR THAT EMPTY POST, it was not intensional , where's the delete button?

Anywho... Welcome! It's good to have some wisdom on board. Also good to know you've used Sonic Foundry products. I used to work at SF in Madison from 1998 - 2000 editing the Loops For Acid product line, scoring TV and radio spots for them, and creating demo songs.
