Although modern activists would like to lay claim to "green" as a mindset or practice, the roots of maintenance and natural science are profoundly set in the being psyche. Benjamin Franklin comes to mind quickly as an early conservationist, from a time when the country's resources were largely thought to be bottomless. And while Poor Richard's axiom "Waste not, want not" seems outdated for today's throwaway society, the conservation interest group continues to gain momentum. But what, exactly, is "green" as it's being used today? Is it recycling, conservation, sustainability, pollution abatement, what? Each individual or organization must decide whether to make resource stewardship part of its traits or culture. Within that circumstance then, camp control must choose which aspects of resource management fit appropriately into the camp's operation, budget, and most likely most importantly, its program and society.
