Good Sound Editor & Recorder

What would be a good sound editor (for free), and where can I get a good quality sound recorder (for hopefully less than $100)? All I have right now is a really simple sound editor, and I'm using my low quality mp3 player's recorder to record stuff. It's not going so good. Please respond ASAP.

The combination of the Zoom

The combination of the Zoom H2 and Audacity is probably the best way to get started. Add a Rycote cover for the H2 and you'll get much better results from outside locations. http://www.rycote.com/products/families/mini-windjammers-handheld-recorder/

Thanks! I actually just googled 'free sound editor' and came up with the free version of AVS Audio Editor, which is pretty good....one thing I don't like though is that the quality goes down FAST.

For less than 100 bucks you

For less than 100 bucks you won't find a good recorder. I payed 199 Euros for my Zoom H2 and I love! It is one of the best recorders in this low price range.
