Dear Community,

There has been a long discussion on the forums about the contribution system for Soundsnap. Taking into account the constructive discussion on the forums, our user's needs, but also the long-term viability and growth of Soundsnap, we have concluded to the following:

We have decided on a 'crowdsourcing' model, which will allow us to get the best sounds from the top sound designers and producers from around the world. We are building an approval process which will allow users to upload sounds and have them considered for approval.

1) New applicants will need to upload a minimum of 10 sounds as a demo in order to be considered as a contributor. New applications will be accepted after March 1st, 2009.

2) The application will include information about the applicant such as experience, equipment list, imdb, other credits or discography and more that will help determine the professional level of the creator.

3) A price per sound will be determined and negotiated on a case-to-case basis, depending on the quality of the sounds, the quantity of the library, the rarity, originality and other factors.

4) Higher rates will be paid for exclusive content that will be available only on Soundsnap.

5) Users will be required to download a contract and fax a signed copy back.

6) Payments will be done via Paypal, Google Checkout, or via direct wire transfer (for E.U. only).

More details will be announced in the New Year.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Robin, Yes, we might

Hello Robin,

Yes, we might re-evaluate some of the uploads.
But there might also be a minimum amount of contributions that someone can upload for consideration.

Keep an eye on the forums during the following weeks for more info.

Cheers

Will sounds that you

Will sounds that you decommissioned be reconsidered? I feel confident they can pass the review, as I have been a sound designer for many years and have been so based on quality among other things.

I would also like to continue uploading sounds as I create them for my projects. (I'm really liking the notion of what you are creating here and, although I don't have thousands of sounds to offer, I feel I can contribute.)

Thanks,
Robin

I am looking forward to uploads being turned on again. I just got a Zoom h4 and have been itching to try it out and greatly increase my library.

I've been absent from

I've been absent from soundsnap for awhile... mainly because I was in a time where I just didn't have time between classes to be doing a production.

I'm glad to see that soundsnap is moving in a direction of quality control. At the same time, I am frustrated... while the quality was never truly an issue for me, it will now restrict me in that I probably won't be able to upload. As a student, I am putting together an audio portfolio, and had hoped that I could host some of my recordings here as a resource for others, and as a little thing for myself (Money is not an issue to me either). Unfortunately, with this contract system, I doubt I will reach the standards that are set.

I hope things go well, but I am sad that now that I have material I could contribute, I can't help out.

Hey, Tass, I've decided I

Hey, Tass, I've decided I probably could get a couple things high-quality enough for this site (they'll just take me alot longer than most people take), but what's all this about stuff I have to sign? Are the old terms of use sufficient if I signed up before the changes? And are uploads going to be back before March 1st?

Also, I want to know if you permanently deleted the loops I put up, or if you just took them down temporarily, because I liked keeping record of how many downloads they received. Also, there are a couple that I'm pretty sure were legal (like "In Crystal" and "Flash Synth"), and more than likely they all were since garageband's stuff should be royalty free.

For great justice!

Hi Acid, The same stands for

Hi Acid,

The same stands for everyone- old and new- March 1st.

So to correct my answer above to John:

Yes, all contributors, old and new, will have to be approved before they can upload more.

Hi John,

This is only for new sounds that have not been uploaded yet.

Your sounds will remain on Soundsnap unaffected.

Tasos, How does this affect

Tasos,

How does this affect those of us who have already uploaded sounds? Do we have to start again?
