This is exactly what I was talking about.

I now had to start a brand new thread just to reply to the original "post editing" thread because I made a mistake and hit the "submit" button and it posted my signature but then it would not allow me to reply to the mistake.

By allowing a user to edit a post they could correct their thread if they caught a mistake instead of having to double post of create a new thread just to answer their original question.

All the other forums that I belong to have this feature.

I still think that we shouldn't allow users to edit their comments, to avoid confusion.

You might want to consider double-checking the text before you post next time :-)
