Soundsnap is mainly for Sound designers/recordists and music producers, filmmakers, web designer's and video game developers. It can also be useful to hobbyists for their home videos, people looking for ringtones and anyone else that needs sounds.

Soundsnap was started by Tasos Frantzolas, a sound designer from Athens, Greece. There is no big investor or venture capitalist behind this. Tasos brought together a team of 20 people who are the core of the community and originally collected 30.000 quality sounds to offer to the public! But the main power behind Soundsnap is our wonderful worlwide community.

Yes, absolutely. You can use them in any commercial or non-commercial application (movies, music, theater, video games etc. etc). However, your use has to comply with the Soundsnap license and our terms of use. Our terms make attribution optional- but recommended, and don't allow commercial distribution of the material if it is not transformed at all or included in a derivative work (film, other music). Therefore, you cannot sell CD's with these sounds or re-sell them online as they are- but only as a part of your music, film, website, installation etc.

Users can create a short profile, email and website. They can make a 'creative network' that features other artists/producers whose work they like. In order to download a sound you have to first become a registered user. Then, purchase a pack from here. You can search for sounds via the search bar at the top, browse by category or browse by tag. Click on the upper right corner of a sound and choose between mp3, wav or aif.

To listen to a sound before downloading, you have to click on the orange/ grey player on the left. This won't affect your download counter.

This is a rare bug that has been reported. Please try using a different browser or re-launch your current one. If the problem persists, contact Support (click on the link at the bottom of the page).

This depends on your browser's preferences. To select where each sound is saved, make a right click (or ctrl+click on a Mac). Choose "save target as" or "save link as" to select a location on your hard drive.

You have to first click on the login link at the top right of the page. Then click on 'request a password' send yourself a new password. The email you receive will contain a new password and your username.

2. Click on 'Profile' on the top navigation menu
3. Then click on edit
4. At the middle of the page you have to enter your new password twice
5. Hit submit at the bottom of the page and you 're done

At the moment, you cannot change your username. But you can sign up for a new account with the username that you prefer.

Click on the "log-in" link at the top right of the page.The click on "request a new password" and you will be able to send yourself a new email with your password. If that still doesn't work, it probably means that you entered your email incorrectly in the first place. Try signing up again. There is also a small chance that you might find our email in your junk folder. If you 're still having trouble, please contact Support (click on the link at the bottom of the page).

There are some greedy people trying to scrape our database by using auto-download scripts. These "bots" (as they 're called), chew up bandwidth and slow down legitimate users. We know its annoying, but its the only way we can stop them for sure.

There are some known problems with certain cards and we 're working hard to solve them. In the meanwhile, please try using a different card or use Paypal- it takes 3 mins to create an account. Alternatively, email us at soundsnap'at'gmail.com and we can send you an invoice to be paid via wire or check.

There is a limitation of two years on all packs you purchase. You will have to download your sounds within two years after your first download.

Your card will only be charged once- there's no recurring billing on Soundsnap.

To get your receipt you have to sign in and select 'Profile' from the top menu bar. Then click on the 'receipt' tab to find your receipt.

The vast majority of our sounds have been licensed from reputable contributors with long Hollywood and TV credits. After submission, our team listens to each sound making sure they don't infringe anyone's copyright.
Finally, because of the large volume of traffic on the website, it would be really hard to distribute a sound illegally. Our sounds are checked daily by members of the community that can inform us of any copyright infringement.

Yes. Any commercial use in film, TV, radio, web, games etc. is clearly allowed by our license. The only use that is not allowed is the commercial distribution of the sounds "as they are" on CDs, websites etc.

Absolutely not. That's against our Terms of Use and a violation of international copyright law.
